Hate on MS E3 reflection / it can be fanboy tiem nao?

Microsoft

FAIL. I hated it. I own an Xbox 360. I like it; the 360 is a solid gaming console. If I wanted to merge into the disgusting, lukewarm, cess-pool of empty interaction that is social networking WHILE gaming, I would simply keep my laptop next to me. Certainly, no one will be required to use Twitter and Facebook in conjunction with Xbox. But as a gamer, I’m agitated by the presence of social networking. The rise of the casual gamer has seen the market tailor to a different crowd, and though good games are still being made (defining “good” by older standards), stores are overflowing with mediocre ones. Games that have been made for a new generation of gamers. Microsoft (and certainly Nintendo & Sony) is fully aware of the casual gamer, thus the content of their press conference. Project Natal especially bothered me. It will probably be an advanced Eye Toy gimmick.

Anyway, hate aside, Microsoft had the best presentation technique. Actually, back to the hate- no tech specs for Natal? The press conference was mostly presentation.

Also, combination of all human souls (social networking) + human reproduction metaphors (project Natal? come on…) = NEON GENESIS EVANGELION - Third Impact! When 2015 rolls around and Microsoft uses Xbox to initiate the return to nothing, well, you heard it here first!

Nintendo

Not bad. I don’t own any 7th gen Nintendo consoles, but their line-up looked okay. I’m disapointed at the lack of hardcore titles for the Wii, but the fact that a new Golden Sun is in the works was good to hear.

Sony

I liked their demo of the new motion controller, mostly because the hardware was actually visible. The less-than-professional presentation was heartening for me, as I’d much rather hear about new tech from the guy who works on it. The same goes for the new MGS and GT games, for which Japanese personel were present. Sony gave out immediate goodies, including FFVII and an Uncharted 2 beta (purchase of inFamous required). I feel like Sony sells the best product in terms of hardware, and though they may be trying to jump on the casual bandwagon (the success of which is debatable), they aren’t sacrificing as much in the process. I hate to be a fanboy, but I kind of trust them.

I’m having trouble composing without going wild with fanboy-ism. In fact, I shouldn’t even hit the “Create Post” button, but I just love hitting buttons more than is good for me.
